Each Day Brings New Opportunities
Every day it seems new local opportunities get presented to me while many more non local. I have done lots of networking recently and finally joined LinkedIn a week ago and already have over 20+ connections and it grows daily. I also had a face to face interview with a local company yesterday. I believe it went well but you never know. Hopefully I get a 2nd interview. I also had another phone interview today with a nearby software company.
I am incredibly optimistic on the next opportunity I will have the chance to take. Another reason is it looks like my next pay rate will be a bit higher due to the low pay rate (below the regional average here) of my last gig. Of course I am far more experienced than I was before my last gig.
I can really never see the point of just staying at one company for a long period of time unless you can grow. If you never get exposure to new technologies, software, and other types of businesses how can you ever truly grow as a programmer? You can’t simply put. I am not afraid to express the truth. A job is but a job and a chance to make a living while developing you skills to a better opportunity presents itself.
On another last minute thought. I haven’t had a real vacation in years. I am thinking about embarking on a road trip to Texas since I have the time. I can always look for work on the road. All I need is my laptop, a internet connection and a cell phone and I’m good to go. Option 2 is to just wait till I get a job and say I’ll start in 2 weeks. I’m leaning towards do it now and just use the 2 weeks as prep time for the job.
