The Importance Of Networking

Every single job I’ve had I’ve always learned new lessons. I think the greatest lesson I’ve learned this time was to network more while you’re employed. I have networked in the past but usually just the occasional contact or update with a vendor. This was a mistake. The importance of networking is the single most important way you can get job leads. I highly recommend that if you haven’t joined LinkedIn already you should do so. It’s a great social networking site to keep contact with people who can help you land a job (coworkers, headhunters, etc..). You really can’t have enough contacts when it comes to finding a job.

In just 2+ weeks I have already accumulated over 40 contacts on LinkedIn and it will rise in the coming days and weeks. I will continue to build my contacts even when landing my next job.

Whew – Another Long Week

Wow,  will this insanity ever end?! Every day I keep getting non stop calls with hope that one of these opportunities (many duplicates) will eventually turn into a new job. It’s hard trying to deal with and handle the sure pure amount of calls.  Not to mention the constant running around every few days to meet another headhunter. I just wish something would finally come up. I am patient but sometimes  I just can only take so much.

On another note some asshole hacked into my blog and added some rouge scripts. I didn’t notice this until I saw a email stating that I had  spyware on my blog and my hosting was briefly suspended. I had to reinstall the blog to be sure the offending scripts were out there. Have a good weekend all!

Another Update

Good afternoon, it’s been a hectic week and it’s only Tuesday.  I had a phone screen yesterday and another interview had to be postponed. I was really looking forward to the delayed interview. It’s a company that I would get a 4 month contract by a phone screen and convert to perm after that. It seems to be a really nice niche businesses that I would enjoy working for. I also am noticing a few more local opportunities starting to trickle in which is nice.

I also got pissed off at this Indian recruiter that called me about a job yesterday. He asked me how I wanted to get paid and I told him W2 and he said he only does corp to corp. Sorry, I am a US citizen I do not work in layers and allow someone else to get a cut of my hard earned money. I simply hung the phone up on him.  US Citizens not and should not work in layers. There should only be 1 layer at the most between you and the client.

Another funny thing that happened to me today was some Indian recruiter (always get the pushiest ones or absurd requirements from them) was pushing a job in Iowa. No thanks. There is no way I would ever leave the sunny south.  I do not think I could take the empty space and cold winters. I would go board being so far from any reasonable size metro area.

Now, I have to get back to work and continue my never ending hunt.
