2011 Brings New Adventures
Hello, fellow techies it has been awhile since the last update.
It’s been a interesting 1st two months at work. Trying to understand a brand new system is both stressful and exciting. I know that this job is permanent and that everyone is very supportive which helps. Every now and then I get some bozo recruiter who sees my profile on LinkedIn and thinks it’s ok to call me at work. This is despite not listing my work number anywhere.
They actually think it’s ok for me to waste company time and talk to them on my office phone. Keep in mind cubicles are usually close together and management and coworkers can easily hear conversations.
I keep a blacklist of recruiters who I won’t do business with. So far the only legit reason I have is the above reason above. My current list stands at 2 companies. I specifically state on my LinkedIn profile that I am happy and not interested in any opportunities. If I was looking my number would be listed and I would state I’m looking for a opportunity.
Another really cool thing that happened to me recently is that a recruiter said he found my resume on Google. The few months I have had a resume site this is the 1st time someone found me by searching. I expect this to happen more in the future. This has also given me the idea to promote myself by means of SEO. I will have to explore this idea in the future.
Today I also finally saw the movie The Social Network. This movie if you don’t know is about the creator of Facebook Mark Zukerberg. I was curious so I decided to check my LinkedIn account which is now well over 1,800 direct connections and it seems Mark Zukerberg is a 2nd level connection.
Now I wonder what the next update will bring?
