Financial Companies Are Sweat Shops

It’s been about time since I’ve do a edgy post like this and I though I’d share a story of mine. I had a contract at one of the Bank Of America buildings in downtown Charlotte, North Carolina last year. I’ve come to this conclusion that financial firms are truly sweat shops. Here’s my story below:

When I did contracting for the Bank Of America I noticed most developers would always leave late and not the 5:00 or 5:30 that they get paid for. This became very apparent when I worked late to finish up a few tasks (7:00) when a good majority of my team was there still. They weren’t there just because a deadline was approaching but sacrificing there time voluntarily.

I’m a firm believe that you should get paid for every hour you work especially when on a contract getting paid hourly. On at least one or more occasions I overheard a conversation (it’s amazing what people think you can’t hear) and someone said he gets paid enough he should stay. I don’t care if someone gets paid $5 a hour or $100/hour they should get paid for all the time they work. Time is valuable and time is worth money.

This is just my 2 cents on what I think of my experience working at the Bank Of America in Charlotte.
