Comments Enabled Again

I’ve decided to allow comments on my blog again after a brief hiatus. I will not accept any spam comments. People seem to think the best way to promote there site is posting generic comments that could relate to any site. All comments will be approved as long as they apply to the content in question.

Finding A Job Is A Numbers Game

Finding a job is a numbers game. It should come as no shock to anyone out there. If you’re looking for a job you should apply to as many positions as possible. I could never understand the logic of some people who apply to 2 or 3 positions and wonder why they don’t find a job. In my past experience in applying to development positions I would always apply to everything I could find if  it was anyway related to my skill set.

Just because a position doesn’t meet you skill set entirely doesn’t mean the employer or recruiter will exclude you completely.  They may not even expect a perfect match. It’s also quite possible that even if your skill set doesn’t match what the employer is looking for it is possible the recruiter or company has other positions to which you may be suited for.

I am a computer programmer. I have been thinking in logic for many years now. Logic says if you keep applying to as many jobs as you can you will eventually find a job. Experience has also taught me the more experienced you get the less jobs you have to apply for to get phone interviews and actual interviews.

Think of it like this example. If you apply to 20 positions you may get called back on 10. Maybe 3 or 4 of those (more or less) you actually get in person interviews.  Now if 1 or 2 of those results in a job offer isn’t the offer worth more than all the other failed attempts? It’s  the end result that’s important. As you can see finding a job is a numbers game nothing more nothing less.

Why Do People Who Make Good Money Claim Poverty?

People are so predictable sometimes. I find that the more I am in the work world the more I see certain issues that repeat themselves. I have this coworker who I will not name for sake of being anonymous. This coworker constantly complains about anything and everything to do with money.

Now, I can understand the value of  not overextending yourself but the way this coworker talks you’d think he’s poor. He is far from poor. The coworker drives chooses to drive a BMW SUV while I drive a more modest Nissan Sentra which is way more fuel efficient and economical.

This coworker while not as experienced as a developer as myself still makes way more than the average person. Does he really have any idea just how lucky he is too make the kind of money he does? I know people in the technology field and not the would give anything to make the kind of salaries that we do. Even locally there are plenty of companies that would pay less for the same type of position.

If the coworker would stop complaining about money and do things to improve his financial situation he could easily work towards a better paying position. This is just another constant observation of people staying glued to there employer when they’re not happy.
