Supreme Court Sees Video Games As Art
I was very surprised to find out that the United States Supreme Court has just ruled that video games are art. This means that they deserve the same First Amendment protections as books, comics, plays and movies. This ruling came into play due to a California law banning the sail of violent video games to minors. California tried to agree that the First Amendment rights did not apply since video games are interactive. It’s different playing a murder by pressing a button vs reading about it.
California has always been know for the extreme and ridiculous but I just don’t get it. Why should you let the government determine which games or children can or cannot purchase? Isn’t it the job of the parents to make that determination? What kind of parent would let a 10 year old play a video game designed for a teenager – adult audience? I for one don’t like my rights violated and turning our country into a 1984 type of world is scary.
Another victory is had but we must continue to stand up to the unjust and ridiculous laws stupid politicians put out just to get votes that appeal to a few.
