Get Paid For What You Work

I’ve worked in IT long enough to know that employees don’t always work for what they get paid for. Most computer programmers are paid on salary when they are permanent. This means that if a company wants you work over 40 hours they usually don’t have to pay you extra. This includes any times that they ask you to work on the weekend or if they need you to come in late at night for a pending release.

I truly believe that one of the benefits of being a consultant is that you get paid for what you work. Normally as a consultant I have always been told you can’t work for more than 40 hours. If in the case they needed me to work more than 40 I would assume I would be compensated.
