Updating Your Tech Skills
IT is a very fast changing career. Technologies are always being updated and replaced with the latest and greatest. The question that comes to mind to many people is how do I stay current with all this change? The truth of this is your really can’t learn everything. There is simply not enough time to learn all new technologies and work full time.
- Only update and learn skills which you can or will benefit from: This may seem obvious but what’s the point of learning a technology if you won’t see a result in the work place or your personal use from it.
- It doesn’t matter how you learn the information as long as you use: Reading books and taking classes are excellent ways of learning new skills. The same goes for taking tutorials you find on the Internet. Remember tech skills that you never use are worthless. You can learn a skill and forget it just as fast if you don’t use it on a regular basis. In a fast changing industry some technologies that you learned last year may not even be used today.
